New Year’s Resolution Exercise Hack: The Mindset Shift That Finally Worked
Heading into 2026, my goal isn’t to “work out more.” It’s to keep exploring. Keep learning. Keep finding the mix that supports a busy life and makes exercise something I actually look forward to. If you’ve struggled to stay consistent, try a different approach. Add variety. Try new classes. Shift from discipline to curiosity.

My Reflection on Working Out in 2025 and What I’m Carrying Into 2026
For the last 10 years, I’ve set the same New Year’s resolution: work out more.
And for the last 10 years, I’ve struggled to stay consistent.
In 2025, something finally clicked.
At a small group retreat early in the year, I took time to reflect on what I really wanted more of in my life. I realized that consistent exercise wasn’t about aesthetics or discipline, it was about energy. Energy to show up better at work. Energy to be more present as a parent. Energy to be a better partner.
I came home fired up. I booked early workouts. I squeezed in home exercises. For a few weeks, I was on track.
Then… reality hit.
Work got busy. Motivation faded. Workouts were skipped. My energy dipped. The scale crept up. Same cycle, different year.
That’s when I realized the problem wasn’t my schedule or willpower—it was my mindset.
Instead of thinking about workouts as something I had to do, I reframed them as something I got to experience. I love trying new things. I’m motivated by learning. So I stopped chasing “exercise” and started chasing new experiences.
Everything changed.
In May 2025, I decided to explore outdoor workouts. I quickly noticed how hard it was to find and book these classes, which sparked the idea for Trainn. But even more importantly, working out outside unlocked a whole new level of enjoyment.
Sun or cold, fresh air, inspiring views, suddenly the workouts felt lighter. The challenge was still there, but it was easier to show up. The people were welcoming and encouraging. It felt like being part of a community that had discovered a simple life hack:
Group exercise + outside = winning!
By staying in a growth mindset: trying new classes, learning new movements, meeting new instructors, I stayed motivated. Variety kept things fresh. Outdoor workouts made it joyful. Consistency followed naturally.
As I’ve built Trainn, I’ve been incredibly grateful for the providers and instructors I’ve learned from along the way. Wrapping up 2025, I feel stronger, healthier, and more energized than I have in years.
Heading into 2026, my goal isn’t to “work out more.” It’s to keep exploring. Keep learning. Keep finding the mix that supports a busy life and makes exercise something I actually look forward to. Because sometimes, consistency isn’t about trying harder, it’s about trying something different.
